AWKA: As the world marks the International Youth Day today, the speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor has described youths as vital component of the society.
In his goodwill message to mark the day, Honourable Okafor noted that as fundamental tools for sustainable development, youths should be given the necessary opportunity and encouragement to actualise their potentials.
The speaker who is a youth himself, commended Governor Willie Obiano for his youths development initiatives, appointment of youths into key political offices and other youth empowerment programmes in the state.
He however commended President Buhari for signing the `Not Too Young To Run bill and challenged various governments, institutions and political stakeholders to ensure youths are accommodated in Nigeria’s political system.
Newsportfolio reports that as the 2019 theme of the day is “Transforming education”, Honourable Okafor enjoined youths to take their education and other meaningful ventures seriously and shun acts capable of jeopardizing their future.
The International Youth Day was observed across the world on August 12 to recognize the efforts put in by the youth for the betterment of the society.
